Mr. C Beverly Hills is the first endeavor by the Cipriani family in Los Angeles (specifically their fourth generation, Ignazio and Maggio Cipriani) and it’s nothing short of exceptional. No expense was shared as the interiors of the hotels are equal parts contemporary and equal parts timeless. The amenities are immense and it may well be one of the finest hotels we’ve seen in quite sometime. There are a total of 138 rooms with 12 Signature Suites and Classic Suites, with spaces ranging from 365 to 800 square feet. With Cipriani classics making their way to the west coast in the hotel’s restaurant, it’s a destination that will leave a mark on a new city, same way it did ages ago to New York.

The old saying “created in LA, perfected in NYC” rings true in this NYC transplant. Bleaker Street takes lower Manhattan and puts it in the middle of LA. Offering classic Little Italy foods like veal parm and lasagna, and throwing California options in there with Ahi Tuna steaks, Bleaker Street blends the two food mecca into one package. Along with the menu Bleaker Street offers a variety of dining options, with a mezzanine level, the main restaurant floor, bar, and patio seating. To pair with the extensive menu come an equally extensive wine by the glass list, sporting more the 60 options.

Hugo’s is one long success story that starts from the simplest of beginning, and turns into something great along the way. A restaurant based on the idea that people should love where they work, and customers should love what you produce for them. Hugo’s started as a neighborhood butcher shop that offered carry out foods. Soon, in the 1980’s, American tastes changed and all of a sudden we had a food culture on our hands that didn’t just eat to live, but lived to eat. Hugo’s gained a reputation as a place where fresh ingredient’s, that sometimes only they had, were used in new way. You could see the cooks making the food, and they would explain how they were using certain things, and pass their knowledge on to you, soon the idea came about to add tables and chairs, and the rest is history. Offering fresh, local foods, staying as green as possible, and catering to vegetarians and vegans has kept the local legend of a restaurant alive and its not going anywhere anytime soon.

The name says it all, The Red Room Wine Bar at its core is a wine bar. With more then 50 wines offered by the bottle or in 2.5oz and 6oz pours, you can have a bottle of wine you love, or try a few you’ve never heard of. Along with the wine there is a tapas menu, and a full dinner menu. The Red Room offers classic wine foods like beef and lamb, but also has a pizza menu for late night snacking. Combined the food, the wine, and the wine knowledge and you have the ingredients for a great night.

Basing an entire restaurant concept around a simple ingredient usually translates into a flash in the pan restaurant, NYC’s Baked Potato Bar is a prime example. But, when the ingredient you use is a versatile as the olive, you may just have a great idea. Fig and Olive’s idea is to run a menu completely around their incredible selection of olives and olive oils. They do so by offering oils to taste before your meal, using olive oil instead of butter in all of their dishes and by offering simple plain olives. All of their dishes focus on the eating traditions of the south of France, Italy, and Spain and their wine list reflects the same regions.

23 years in the restaurant business is an accomplishment in itself, but 23 years in the ever changing, constantly critiquing city of Los Angeles, well that’s just a miracle. With its chandeliers and fireplaces La Cafe Boheme tips its hat to tradition, but with its Asian influenced menu it stays current. With the kitchen being run by a classically French trained chef, who come from an Asian American family, the menu offers everything from filet mignon tacos to tuna tataki, the menu offers something for everyone.
